Day 1: Depart the UK
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Sit back, relax, and prepare for an unforgettable African adventure.
Day 2: Victoria Falls Arrival
Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred by private vehicle to your lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River. This afternoon, we recommend a relaxing sunset cruise, offering your first taste of African wildlife. Keep an eye out for elephants, hippos, and a variety of bird species as the sun sets over the river.
Day 3: Explore Victoria Falls
Spend the day exploring the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls with your private guide. Wander along the pathways and viewpoints, witnessing the thundering falls in all their glory. For a truly spectacular perspective, consider a helicopter flight over the falls, offering panoramic views of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 4: Zambian Side & Local Activities
Today, a driver will take you across the border to view the falls from Zambia, providing a unique vantage point. The afternoon is free to enjoy a range of activities: zip-lining through the rainforest, browsing local artisanal markets, or savouring a classic afternoon tea with views of the Zambezi.
Day 5: Transfer to Hwange National Park
Travel by private vehicle to Hwange National Park. The first part of the journey is along a good tar road, after which you’ll switch to an open safari vehicle at the park gate. This scenic drive marks the beginning of your safari adventure, with wildlife sightings possible en route. Arrive at your lodge in time for an afternoon sundowner game drive.
Day 6: Hwange Safari Drives
Enjoy morning and afternoon safaris from your lodge, exploring the park’s diverse habitats of mopane woodland and open plains. Hwange is renowned for its elephant herds, and you’ll also have excellent opportunities to spot buffalo, lions, and a variety of other wildlife. Return to the lodge to relax and watch animals gather at the nearby waterhole.
Day 7: Guided Bush Walks
Experience Hwange on foot with guided bush walks. Depart in the cooler morning or late afternoon hours to track wildlife, learn about plants and smaller creatures, and enjoy the sounds of the African bush. Stop for refreshments under the shade of a tree while observing animals at a nearby waterhole.
Day 8: Elephant Express Transfer
This morning, transfer from the lodge to a local railway siding to board the Elephant Express, a single-carriage railcar. Travel along the park’s eastern boundary, covering 70 km while spotting wildlife such as elephants and wildebeest. Arrive at your new lodge in the south of Hwange in time for an afternoon game drive.
Day 9: Full-Day Safari
Today is a full day of safari in southern Hwange. Explore habitats including palm-fringed plains, acacia woodlands, and teak forests. Take advantage of night drives to spot nocturnal creatures such as porcupines, springhares, and nightjars, offering a completely different perspective on the park’s wildlife.
Day 10: Optional Activities
Choose from a variety of activities in Hwange: go horse riding through the bush, engage with local communities, photograph wildlife from an underground hide, or venture on a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch in the park. Each option offers unique ways to experience Hwange’s rich wildlife and landscapes.
Day 11: Return to Victoria Falls
After breakfast, you’ll be driven back through Hwange to Victoria Falls for your onward travel arrangements. Reflect on the incredible safari experiences you’ve had while enjoying the scenic journey back to the Zambezi.
Day 12: International Flight Home
Arrive home today, bringing with you unforgettable memories of Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park, from thundering waterfalls to the majestic wildlife of Zimbabwe.
